  •  Too late for that. (7+ / 0-)

Reactor 3 has been breached and the spent fuel is likely burning.  Firemen are no longer hosing water on at least 2 of the other reactors, and a full meltdown of three reactors is not unlikely.  Plutonium is apparently being vented from #3.
I'm not going to try to tell you what the next step should be, but I don't see anything getting fixed.  I'll guess it's time to bury the plant and force evacuation of children and pregnant women.

    •  Venting plutonium? (2+ / 0-)

Why is the isotope assay of the water in the turbine building strangely 'missing' any mention of uranium or plutonium? I mean, this is melted slag gone critical. Has to be there...

BTW, a link for report of venting plutonium would be appreciated. Thanks.

      •  There are a number of sources reporting (0+ / 0-)

a probable breech in the #3 primary containment. That reactor uses MOX fuel: uranium and plutonium.

        •  Yes, a breach would (4+ / 0-)

be releasing fuel, depends on where the breach is whether it would be in the steam or in wherever the water is collecting. Water in the turbine building basement is most likely from leaks in the steam pipes (don't know if isolation valves were ever closed, and if so that they've been compromised) which are open to the reactor vessel. That's a whole different issue from a hole or crack in the vessel itself.
