    the proper sequence of events is lacking.  The ability to remember the order in which events occur, or to even recognize that there is an order, seems to be distinct from other kinds of memory and is lodged in its own section of the brain.  
    In senile dementia, the disappearance of this function is telling, especially in someone who had it to begin with.  Not everyone does.  The sense of time and space is variably present, as is a sense of numbers or tonal relationships.
    People who have no sense of sequence, obviously don't perceive the connection between cause and effect.  Things just happen in isolation.  Also, they can't plan ahead.
