a prediction for an election over a year and a half away.  Yeah, there were numbers on April 1, 2009 that showed Rethugs storming back in 2010.  Not!

But I do seem to recall Krugman warning that the stimulus wasn't big enough, and that unemployment would still be a big problem by the time 2010 rolled around.  But even then, no one was saying that Dems would take such a huge beating.

You might be right.  But you might be as wrong as the Obama Administration was in 2009.  They made the mistake of confusing legislative victories (passing a bill, any bill) with actually fixing problems.  The Stimulus was a legislative victory that didn't solve the problem.  HCR was a legislative victory, but it didn't solve the problem for millions of Americans without health insurance.

I have provided my opinion.  You don't have to agree.  If I'm wrong, no one is the worse for wear.  If I'm right and you're waiting for numbers, it will be too late.

If Obama is no longer seen to be working to solve problems, he may be in big trouble.  Doing nothing is what he Republicans want.  They don't want government solving problems.  If Obama is satisfied with the latest jobs numbers, he deserves to lose.  No Democrat should be happy with these numbers.  If they don't view high unemployment as an emergency, they are not real Democrats.

If you can't see that, what does that make you?

    •  Not too late for the Dems to embrace the (0+ / 0-)

producer class as opposed to the gays, lesbians, blacks, Chicanos, and feminazis.   By being the champion of the underdog you sign your own political death warrant.  Adding all the aforementioned groups together and subtracting the far left contingents in each  that will accept nothing less than their own holy grail is not a formula for victory in a democratic republic.  The successful political party and the successful politician will find the "sweet spot" that appeals to the rank and file producers in the economy and beat it like a drum all the way to victory.  This means MEDICARE BUY IN as well as a frank and honest discussion of MONETARY ECONOMICS and TAX POLICY.  Leave all the divisive social crap out of it.  Just stick to the basics of what is good for the producer class.  Oh... BTW:  The "producer class" includes the people in labor unions as well as the mom and pop laundries and the McDonalds franchise owners and those who own their own trucks and back hoes.  This latter group are the TRUE "small business" people.  A highly progressive tax system is KEY to helping the PRODUCER CLASS.  And loose monetary policy is key to forcing the wealthy to INVEST or lose their financial power.

I don't see how this fits in this discussion.  Did you mean to reply to another post somewhere?
