As any good scientist (logician, philosopher, historian) will tell you, the minute you start looking at the data with a preconceived theory in your head, you will start to use that theory as a filter. Things that support it will come to the forefront, while things that mitigate against it will tend to disappear into the background noise. Any good investigator--of anything--will refuse to go anywhere except where the data lead. And you don't follow that trail by walking in with preconceived notions.

Still looks like an execution-style killig to me. What would you want to convince you that it was a execution-style killing?

At least in this country, "execution-style killing" usually means a single shot, either to the back of the head or between the eyes, while the victim is kneeling in front of the killer (i.e., not lying face-down on the floor). Such killings don't often take place where the victims live--they're usually done in a parking lot or some out-of-the-way place where nobody is likely to notice. Certainly not in the middle of a busy neighborhood in broad daylight (even if the victims were shot in the basement, it could still make enough noise to rouse suspicion).

Das ist der Mensch in seinem Wahn" -- J. W. von Goethe
