    cumulative portfolios demonstrating growth and achievement

    rate of college acceptance and entrance
    ability to function in and contribute to society

    that's just a start.

    and if you want to say that some of those numbers can be doctored, refer to the recent scandal about Rhee's test scores.

    the one that can't be doctored is the first: a cumulative portfolio, created and maintained by a student, that shows consistent growth over time, or measures ups and downs in the student's performance, with reflective pieces by the student explaining their performance for the year/semester. when we can teach kids to appreciate their own progress, and think about the way they think, rather than working toward doing well on a test, then we'll actually have an educational system that works.
