  •  Which old days? Those days when lords (0+ / 0-)

ruled over serfs, those old days when people of color were considered property, or those old days when the Robber Barons employed millions for scant wages in dangerous industrial factories? The point is, be skeptical of stories of how much better things were in the past. Because they weren't.

    •  I have seen honorable (3+ / 0-)

people do the right thing by people.  A family-owned business that burned to a total loss, but kept paying the employees' insurance premiums AND their bi-weekly salaries for several months until a temporary location was set up.  That was within the last 10-12 years.

A company that picked up the tab for 2 weeks in a hotel for several employees and their families when a freak flood hit 100 or so homes.  They also got a pre-paid CC for immediate needs (clothing, etc.) A business associate of that company donated the use of his very nice travel home to one of the employees for 8 months while the house was being rebuilt.  That was a couple of years ago.

A local businessman who sent his own son over to "manage the store" for a couple of weeks when a competitor was felled by a sudden heart attack. Also 2-3 years ago.

Those kind of efforts don't make the news.

      The truth always matters.
