    by a Spanish university that demonstrated that of the 20+ countries bordering the Mediterranean, the wage scales in the European countries were ten times higher than those on the southern shore.  I suspect that the situation is similar if one compares North American and Central American countries.

    With those levels of disparity in opportunity and income, you will never stop people from heading to the" promised land", whether that be Europe or the US, and in spite of the enormous risks that some folks have to face in the transit.
