Jesse Jackson Park, because those kids will take control of thier own future and the right wingers will lose. Great diary, well done.

    My favorite part:

It was a terrific coordinated effort to make voting important but also celebratory

    •  So true. (6+ / 0-)

I have this conversation with college-age students all the time. It's fun to go to Madison and protest, for LOTS of reasons.

It is not really all that fun to vote, unless you get a kick out of civic engagement. I'll confess that I leave polling places with a big fat smile on my face, but I'm getting into that firmly middle-aged voting demographic and I obviously don't get out all that much. :-)

There needs to be palpable fun and a sense of voting's importance to get the folks on the margins to do that little dull action every year or so when elections come up. So while the drum circle in the Capitol Rotunda was maybe the most powerful collective experience I've ever been in, its conclusion is going to be in that little blue booth at the local school or police station or church.

is to get students and members of minority communities to understand - they (the conservatives, the Republicans) don't want you to vote.  They want to make it hard for you to vote.  Fight back, don't let them win.

With changes happening nationwide to create additional barriers to voting in communities that are already underrepresented at the polls, the progressives are going to have to find ways as creative at this effort to help people past them.
