King specifically was referring to agape love, which is the love and respect for your fellow man simply because they are human.

When King said, "always fight with love", that's what he meant - keep that love and respect for your fellow man at the forefront of your heart and mind when you fight your opponent, so you don't get into the trap of hating him.

"It is no longer a choice, my friends, between violence and nonviolence. It is either nonviolence or nonexistence." Martin Luther King, Jr.

but that wasn't advice for people sitting in their living rooms. that love was a form of protection that martin provided for the living breathing soldiers who faced down armed bigots, fire hoses, attack dogs and non-stop threats on their lives and their children's lives.

martin and ghandi never advocated passive resistance, their strategy was all about ACTIVE resistance, which is is what we as democrats need to do. we have to take the fight to them and expose their lies to the light of day.

The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity. --Yeats

This is always my essential question when I read stuff here and how I identify those who are not....helpful.

The GOP (and the religious right) use their power to divide and dehumanize and marginalize and then demand that we be 'tolerant' and accepting and respectful. And some folks, well, their personal issues and massive egos become something of a burden and others, their perceived self interest interferes with their judgement.

I would point out to Armando that not all Front Page Posters (and I particularly speak about that last lot) are effective leaders in this fight.

"...the definition of a gaffe in Washington is somebody who tells the truth but shouldn't have." Howard Dean
