    And paying for the wars is certainly part of it. That, and even putting the economy on a sharper upward rise, is achievable through four simple steps:

    1) Return income tax rates to those under Clinton,

    2) Return defense appropriations to what they were under Clinton (it should be reduce further, but, unlike the Republicans, I can live with half a loaf),

    3) Enact a trillion dollar (give or take a few billion) stimulus to be invested in infrastructure projects that create jobs and pump up the economy, and

    4) Take the major banks to the woodshed, including fines for the banks and their officers and restitution to those defrauded through defective mortgages and/or securities.

    The first two will bring the federal budget close to balance. The third one will add jobs and tax revenue. And the fourth will greatly increase consumer confidence in the government and the nation.
