    to be factual statements, he has chosen his political company and affiliations well, I'd say.


    Seriously, pause for a moment.

    A Serving Senator addressing the body makes remarks on the floor that are not intended to be factual.

    And his spokesperson readily admits that they aren't intended to be factual.

    The news reader simply gives the verbatim statement.

    Longer pause here.

    A second, even longer pause.

    50 years ago, that would have been the news story.

    Today, it is a verbatim quote from the spokesperson.

    I'm not sure there are pauses long enough to take that in.
