Has the debt limit been raised already?

Beyond that, what battle is it that is being fought on this? It is all downside. There is no additional funding or tax increases at play here.

Only the possibility of more concessions to the GOP.

Surely Sun Tzu was more astute than this.

The vibe I am getting is that a whole lot of folks -- folks on our side! -- actually want Obama to fail at this. he is not progressive enough, he deserves it, I guess...

Sorry, he saved the big guns -- i.e. ultimatum -- for the situation where it will actually bear fruit. GOP electorate being what it is, they would welcome the shutdown of federal government, they were not bluffing. here, they are. Gotta know when to fold and when to hold...

We are at an inherent disadvantage here simply because teahadists are perfectly willing to see the world burn. There's little leverage to be had against suicidal maniacs. But this -- this is the point where we do have leverage, because here teahadist nutcases would be radically at odds even with their own copartisans.

So as a result GOPers look like selfish whiny brats, debt ceiling will be raised, no concessions will be given, and, in the bargain, we will have ignited an intra-GOP shitstorm -- the teahadists will go berserk, while enough of the GOp compromises to pass the vote.

We will see soon enough how the debt ceiling vote plays out. But mark my words...

        We agree on that.

It seems to me that your victory dance is premature.

but what I want and what I expect are vastly different.

What possible cause for optimism is there?  Obama came out of the gate, said he wanted to shut down Guantanamo, and got a horse's head in his bed when Congress defunded all efforts to do that.

ARRA was too little, too late.

Then he got strung along for a year on health care by bad faith negotiations, and ended with a weak bill.

Then, after losing the House, he caved on extending the Bush Tax Cuts.

Years after the financial crisis caused by massive fraud, not one Bankster is in jail.

Please, name one major initiative that has gone well?  The hits just keep coming.  I am absolutely depressed.

        •  I see we already forgot (0+ / 0-)

the long list of major accomplishments which Rachel Maddow put together in 2010. Back then, he had already accomplished more in mere 2 years than most presidents do in their entire time in office.

How quickly -- and how conveniently -- we forget.

"Circular firing squad" is a hard habit to break, eh?
