The assumption that he is acting in good faith and is actually pushing for progressive - or even centrist - policies, might have been reasonable in 2008.  At this point in time, it is not.

    •  If Obama is a DINO, he's in good company (3+ / 0-)

I'ld vote for Eisenhower over B Clinton or Obama.  That RINO was a better Democrat than we've had a chance to vote for than any since Carter.

Obama didn't start this trend of DINOism.  Maybe I'm less disillusioned with him than most because I never expected that much from him.  Trying to be more hawkish than McCain on Afghanistan should have have been all the tell anyone needed to know that this guy was a DINO.

I still knock doors for these jerks because the alternative is even worse, period, end of discussion.  The stakes are so high that even one thin dime's worth of difference is plenty worth hundreds of hours of my time knocking doors.

I hope for a better day, a day when I'll be able to think that all that work is going to elect actual Democrats.  But I temper even that hope with the realization that it will take a sea change in the electorate for that day to come, and those changes are only bought at great price.  It took the Great Depression to knock this country out if its absurd infatuation with the Rs of Harding, Coolidge and Hoover's day.  I don't wish for such misery, I don't wish that this country should hit bottom to have its moment of national clarity.  But I don't have to wish for that.  When even the Ds are DINOs, hitting bottom is not far off.

We should have destroyed the presidency before Obama took office. Too late now.
