    Everyone thinks someone else is paying it.

    Let's throw a war and let our children pay for it!

    You can only do that for so long.  And now, as you correctly point out, the debt needs servicing.  In 5 years, the interest alone on the debt will be 1/2 Trillion dollars!

    Of course, the more we cut, the less we'll have to pay in taxes.  But, both sides seem so intransigent about protecting their "stuff", how can we ever get there?

    Once people have to start paying up for all the services/defense we get from our government, we may actually see voters get serious about demanding some accountability.  Not until then, apparently.

      accountability happens.  Programs and weapon systems must demonstrate why they are worth doing.  Tax cuts must be seen not as free money, but as cuts in programs many want.
