  •  It totally reminded (7+ / 0-)

me of the GOP response to both DADT and DOMA.

DADT: "Um... well... AMPUTATIONS! Social experiment!"

DOMA: "Political decision! Usurping constitutional role!"

In neither of those cases did anyone really discuss why the policies of allowing gays who serve in the military to serve openly, or to stop defending a law largely believed to be unconstitutional by liberals and conservatives alike, were bad in and of themselves.

Boehner STILL will not say "DOMA is constitutional." The GOP House leader won't even defend an antigay marriage law himself on the basis of constitutionality, or on a policy basis. All he will say is 'The constitutionality should be determined by the courts, not the president.'

This is similar - they won't defend the actions or policies or world views of their party, they'll just throw out buzzwords.

"I will never compromise on my commitment to equal rights for all LGBT Americans." - President Obama, 2/28/08
