Just a thought from somebody who went through Katrina: there are certain things in this world that are real.  No amount of political spin can change the impact of a real event.  A levee failing is a real event.  Fukushima is a real event.  Climate change is a real event.

Right now we are treating the economy as a political events.  Something where the underlying meaning can change based on spin.  I'd suggest that at the bottom of all of this their is a real cause.  Climate change is causing our infrastructure to break down and this is slowing the economy.  The over leverage of the 2000s is exagerating the downward movement brought about by this slowing.

Politicians can hold whatever hopes they want about the economy.  Unless infrastructure improves and climate change is dealt with unemployment will stay roughtly within the current range.

Oh and you might also want to ask the NRC for a briefing on Fukushima.
