unusual. In personal contacts, somewhat distasteful ones, I have noticed people actively feeding at the federal trough and even cheating most probably that are happy as clams with the thought. Then they foam at the mouth because "They" are getting "advantages" and that is just a crime. Ever run into someone on federal assistance and hiding part time employment, getting some medical benefits that rails against those "damn immigrants" or "those damn blacks" getting "free government care"? I have. All too often that particular type of bias has racial/ethnic roots and is tied to other racist/ethnic prejudice.

There are others at play. The "entitlement" game is big. "I earned my benefit" while denying others are "worthy" is one. Ever run into the veteran that was a career REMF, never got out of CONUS, spent a career at a desk for the most part railing against say a shipyard worker with asbestos related lung cancer getting "unearned benefits"? I have. The "I earned" and they did not thing is strong in this area. Part is human nature. I'm ok, rightful even while being pretty damn close to what we are looking at with prejudice. Those that do not look around with intelligence and understanding are prey for such thinking.

The only foes that threaten America are the enemies at home, and those are ignorance, superstition, and incompetence. [Elbert Hubbard]
