    Arnie Gundersen told Vermont Yankee their cooling towers were going to collapse. They blew him off. So did the Vermont PSC.

    Then a cooling tower collapsed.

    They discovered tritium leaking from the plant and Vermont Yankee said they had no buried pipes. Then they discovered buried pipes.

    In 2006 Vermont opposed up-rating the plant. The NRC approved the plan. Vermont passed a law requiring state approval for licensing renewal. The NCR granted a ten year renewal.

    In January tritium was discovered in two more sentinel wells and everyone agrees it isn't from the existing plume. I guess they have some more non-existing buried pipes to find.

    Today Vermont Yankee filed suit in federal court to keep running the plant over state objections:

    Others have simply gotten old. I prefer to think I've been tempered by time.
