  •  Isn't it that HuffPo / AOL are profit making (0+ / 0-)

ventures, while DailyKOS is political, not a business aimed at making profits for investors?

If investors are earning money, some of that should go to the people who create the value that leads to the money flow.

    Just my opinion.

      •  Perhaps you didn't read my comment (0+ / 0-)

        thoughtfully.

I didn't say Markos doesn't make money on DailyKOS, I said that HuffPo / AOL are making profits for investors.  I also said that the reason for being for DailyKOS is political not purely as a profit-making entity.

HuffPo / AOL are just more media entertainment with some opinions pretending to be news. Newstainment?

Does Markos have "investors earning money"?

Not speaking for anyone else, but I comment and write here for the furtherance of the goal of electing decent Democrats.  If Markos can support the costs of this massive site and 300,000+ users plus who knows how many viewers off the revenue, GOOD.

But if DailyKOS were purely a profit-making venture, then sure, some of the earnings should go to front-pagers, to administrators, to regular writers because they are creating the value.

"The value" of DailyKOS for me is that political goals are furthered.  If this were purely commercial, I wouldn't be here.

Maybe that helps clarify my earlier comment.

It's still distinctions without a difference.

          •  Well, that's interesting. Do you think HuffPo (0+ / 0-)

writers should be unpaid or DailyKOS writers should be paid?

HuffPo's sale to AOL showed there was a huge sum of money involved. It seems fair that those who created some of that value should be paid for continuing.

Perhaps all of us are boosting the value of DK.  Personally, I don't see Markos selling the place off to a 'provider' or media conglomerate, but if he did.....

Just curious what you think, then, if you don't think my perceptions provide any difference between the two..?

... that people who want to be paid should arrange for being paid in advance. People who write for HuffPo, or here, know what they're doing and consciously choose to value the opportunity to reach a broad audience over payment.

              •  I mostly do it (0+ / 0-)

to get things off my chest! ha!

Well, and to try to figure things out too. Seriously, sometimes, the best way to sort things out is to try to say something about your thoughts. Once it is typed out, maybe it makes sense. And if it doesn't someone will sure as heck let you know!

Usually, I think I'm responding to the diarist or commenter themselves. And if I write a diary, well, it's just self-expression, not public exposure. I guess those could be the same thing.  More of an internal perspective.
