    Meanwhile, these guys make an excellent case:

      I make well into 6 figures and just did my taxes.  8% effective rate.

      My point stands: the RATES during the Eisenhower days cannot be compared 1:1 with today's rates, because we have nowhere near the type of loophole "outs" that existed back then and that have been largely eliminated.

      It was kind of a running joke, and can be seen not just in the tax code, but in popular literature, media, etc.  NOBODY paid anywhere near the marginal tax rates on that kind of income.

      That's my only point.

      But right now, a rich person paying 17% pays more than twice (percentage wise) what I pay as a solid middle class 6 figures.
