  •  Welcome Congressman! (none)
I am frustrated.  At the moment things seem to be going well for us but I'm worried.

I was at a town meeting last weekend with Tom Davis (VA-11).  There were between 100-200 people there and at least half of them were there about Social Security.  He admitted to us point blank that the privatization scheme wouldn't solve the "problem" and would put us further into debt, but when we asked him to commit not to vote for a plan that diverted payroll taxes to private accounts, he refused, even though there wasn't a single person there to speak in favor of this.

I have a friend who's a journalist for a major newspaper; she covers the White House and politics, and she is a Democrat - she's on our team.  But she repeats Republican lies about Social Security uncritically as part of what she considers "balanced" reporting, and insists that we can't know what is in their heads, so it isn't fair or objective or whatever to state that they want to phase out Social Security.  I don't know how much more obvious they have to get but - I haven't won this argument yet.

Anyway we won't give up, but I worry.  Thanks for coming by.

How can we get over it when people died for the right to vote? -- John Lewis
