    •  Treasurer is a appointed office, not elected? Well (0+ / 0-)

maybe he could bite the hand that appointed him. All's fair in politics and he could be a national Democratic hero.

Okay, the Government says you MUST abort your child. NOW do you get it?

The treasurer is appointed by the governor. Strange thing about this is that Andy Dillon was the former Democratic House Majority leader and Speaker of the House!  Dillon used to be a Republican and some suspect he changed to the Democrats to win election in his largely Democratic, working class Catholic inner ring suburban Detroit district.

He tried to win the Democratic nomination for Governor in 2010 but by then had pissed off so many core Democratic constituencies (teachers, unions, pro-choice groups) that he lost the Democratic nomination in a landslide to Virg Benero, a pro union,  pro choice Mayor of Lansing, the state capitol).

Perhaps hoping to use this DINO to put a bi-partisan cast on his corporate fascism, Snyder appoined Dillon as State Treasurer.

oversight comittee with Democrats that can put him under some public scrutiny?

My family is from the UP and I lived in Lansing as a child--never in MI as an adult though. Remember Benero from interviews on MsNBC but didnt know who opposed him in the primary.

          •  thats a good question (3+ / 0-)

Honestly I dont think so.  Other than legislative "oversight", I dont think the State Treasurer has to please anyone but the Governor who appointed him- which does us no good either.

As for legislative oversight,  as I said earlier, the legislature and all statewide elected officials are held by Republicans, so unless the courts somehow can step in, Michigan is screwed.

This is why it is so important that we recall Snyder and I hope every last Republican who voted for this fascist Emergency bill in the first place.

By the way, the UP is beatiful, I often think of moving up there but its isolation makes it very difficult to do unless you are extremely financially stable.

that so many people must leave and the area gets grayer and grayer. My sister lives there, on SS. She's terrified about what's happening in Michigan.
