I may be sensitive to the disdain for Chicagoans/FIPs, but I don’t think Chicagoans, wealthy or otherwise, are a primary factor in this disgusting power and land grab.

Future resorts and developments, if built along (stolen) Benton Harbor lakefront property, would no doubt attract some Chicago money (along with Michigan and other Midwest wealth).  However, the players here --- Snyder, Upton and friends --- are Pure Michigan (Republican style).

As happy camper states, Chicagoans have been vacationing in Southwest Michigan for years, and many own vacation homes near or on the lakeshore. Many of these are modest homes or cabins owned by middle class families, located more inland or on inland lakes.

Beaches filled with Illinois tourists are not necessarily a bad thing for the resort towns along the lakeshore. These vacationers are less likely to be "Hamptons" party-hoppers, and more likely to be families enjoying an affordable Midwest vacation option.

In the face of this infuriating injustice to the people of Benton Harbor, let’s stay focused on the real villains behind it.

I did make an unnecessarily snide comment about Chicagoans who own homes along the beach, and it was unfair.  They are not the villains.  Point taken, and apologies.
