  •  Straw man. Yawn. (7+ / 0-)

Sure, Obama has done some good things for some people - but that's a bar positioned so that any president could pass under it.

    Even those riding elephants.

Some days I almost wish a Republican would win

Could ask Herbert Walker Bush to run again, he's eligible.  Raised taxes to fight the deficit rather than slash social programs.  Pulled out Iraq rather than maintain an occupation.  Signed the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Oh, what a horror it would be to have increased taxes on the rich, a pullout from a theater of war, and landmark civil rights legislation.

Run and hide under your beds!  Run away, run away!

There just seems to be this irritating habit liberals have where they sit out the election, saying the Dems are no different than the GOP, then they are outraged after the election, when the GOP proves how different they are. And by that time it's too late, to say, I dont know, stop a bill that takes away collective bargaining rights, or block a right wing SCOTUS appointment.

    •  George H.W. Bush was to the left of Obama! Drink! (7+ / 0-)

Because yes, the most progressive President since FDR is to the right of George H.W. Bush. I love what runs through the minds of the ODS crowd.

now we are giving him credit for pulling out after he ordered the attack.  You realize Obama expanded the ADA to give it some actual teeth when dealing with some disabilities, Slinkerwink diaried it.

He raised taxes to fight the deficit he helped create as Vice President under Reagan.

I'm not trying to join these series of idiotic "straw men" arguments where both sides scream straw man everytime the other side makes a point - but I can't let the rewriting of Bush I's history go.

But if you want to count that diplomat's fuzzy statement to Saddam, I guess you could connect it back to the White House.

The first Gulf War has something to answer for in regards to the treatment of the soldiers who participated, but nothing to apologize for about how it started, how the United Nations was involved, or the timing of the end.

        •  Slight quibble: (0+ / 0-)

The part I hated about the end was how the Kurds and Shiites that were encouraged to rise up against Saddam were left to the wolves as soon as the Iraqi military was driven out of Iraq and permanently hobbled by airstrikes.

Other than that, it was a great withdrawal compared to...what we're still waiting to happen in our current five wars: Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and now Libya.

          •  Could be.. (0+ / 0-)

..but I don't know enough about what was 'promised' to know if it was just encouragement, or a betrayal.

If we never actually promised to help, then the Kurds and Shiites made their own decision.

      •  What rewriting? Where? (0+ / 0-)
Didn't Bush start the first gulf war?

Which is the same as the second Gulf war?  If we want to be making apples to apples comparisons here, we need to be talking about Obama's attacks on Libya - which he did without Congressional authorization.

You realize Obama expanded the ADA to give it some actual teeth when dealing with some disabilities, Slinkerwink diaried it.

Which is not the same as signing it into law in the first place.  If Obama had signed ENDA or a repeal of DOMA, those would be apples to apples comparisons.  Too bad they were never anything more than campaign slogans for Obama.

but I can't let the rewriting of Bush I's history go.

What rewriting.  Signing tax increases (not even considered by Obama), pulling out of Iraq (promise of 16 month withdrawal = broken) signing landmark civil rights legislation (ENDA? What's that?) into law...

        check, check and check.
