    His wonderfully lightsome theory is that the North could have just bought all the slaves.   Problem solved.

    If he actually argues that, then he is an idiot.  Lincoln tried to get the leaders of Kentucky (a loyal slave state) to adopt a program of gradual compensated emancipation on numerous occasions.  They would not budge.

    Those were the loyal slave holders.

    Why does Paul think the traitors would have been any more amenable to such a scheme?
