    Most US oil company reserves are overseas.  If you think foreign governments would let large shares in their oil fields become direct property of the United States government, you need to leave off your newly-legalized glaucoma treatment.

    More likely, they'd all spin off as the essentially separate firms they already are.

    I guess Uncle Sam would get some old stripper wells and some shiny office buildings.
