  •  It was doubly hilarious (5+ / 0-)

because so many of those of us who knew had already become known as the good girls who would be the sort to quietly read the Bible during a boring sermon.

Apparently those boys never realized 'quietly reading the Bible' includes Song of Solomon, the sexual morality sections of Leviticus, Jacob's wives bartering over his services as not-necessarily-willing stud in their 'no, I will have the most children!' war, Ruth inviting herself into Boaz's bedroll, and the many exploits and misadventures of one (possibly bisexual) David son of Jesse.

(I managed to nearly scandalize a set of Sunday School teachers in middle school by knowing the chapter numbers for both sets of sexual codes in Leviticus. They were about to cover the tamer of the two chapters, the second apparently being ruled too extreme for our little girl minds to handle yet, despite the fact that same year we were being encouraged to try to read through the entire Bible. Um, yeah, don't know how they figured we'd skim past that...)

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.

Note that they aren't struck down for immorality, and David goes on to marry several woman AND father Solomon thanks to his affair with Bathsheba.  Not a nice guy.
