    I suspect it would be pretty easy for a library worker to steal or destroy an item in the collection without being discovered. But this person did not do that. She made the book inaccessible to others by checking it out - putting it on record that she was the one holding onto it. Rather than being outright destructive, this library worker clung to the book.

    She deserved to be reprimanded for that, even if she did it because she totally LOVED it. You don't get to monopolize an item in the circulating collection.

    But investigating the library user's personal information and using that information to challenge the user's access to the item, that was definitely an offense that required firing.
