gay men exhibit similar discomfort as a kind of presumed heterophobia when having to engage transfolk

that some of that discomfort relates to the fact that some gay men fear that they did not have the courage to examine their gender issues as well as their sexual issues.  This was true for me at one point.  I was uncomfortable with "drag" when I was younger because I wanted to be accepted as a passable straight man.  HA!  There is deceiving and then there is deceiving.

I had the great privilege of hosting Jan Morris for an author series and have the program on tape.  If anyone still has a VHS player and wants to borrow it, just message me.

      Another superb diary, rserven.

It can be a case of confusing gender and sexuality and not understanding the difference, and fearing the confusion.  18 years ago, after living in San Francisco for 8 years and growing accustomed to most people having a relatively broad acceptance of the gender spectrum as distinct from sexual orientation, I moved to LA.  I was astounded to be confronted by a barrage of gay men who demanded "straight acting" sex partners.  So fucked up. Sexual orientation and gender identification are not the same thing.

didn't mean to reference the preceding comment and heterophobia in the subject.  Must be tired tonight...
