    statement all by himself.

You ought to add "except for all the exceptions".

Carter spent more years on the farm than in politics.
He's spent a lifetime being a Navy veteran, too.

        Won, even.  Did so repeatedly.

That's a "politician" by any reasonable definition.
Don't make the "no true Scotsman" fallacy.

Bernie Sanders is a politician too, and a good guy.

You wouldn't be getting flak if you'd said "That's what the majority of politicians do".  But it's unhelpful to tar the good guys with the same brush as the majority.  We need to highlight the good guys and get the rest of the country supporting 'em.

        •  disagree. I define politician as a (0+ / 0-)

selfserving profiteering asshat with no interest in his/her constituents' needs or views.

very very few office holders are not also politicians, but the 1987 Howard County Commissioners' Court was composed entirely of non-politicians.

The sheriff of Lubbock County prior to the current incumbent, a man named David Gutierrez, was not a politician.

Jimmy Carter was not (merely) a politician; he was an office holder.
If you say the same is true of Bernie Sanders, persuade me.

Sadly, the exceptions to this one are decreasing by the day.

If there is no accountability for those who authorized torture, we can no longer say that we are a nation of laws, not men.
