  •  I like her too (4.00)
    Always have - I'm no Wolfe come lately.

    She just is who she is. I love how she just rolled up her sleeves, donned the orange jumpsuit and did the time - and is out to plant her spring bulbs.

      I'm sorry, but it's pretty pathetic to "like" Marth Stewart.  You know nothing about her.  You haven't met her.  She's an upper class, aristocratic CEO.  You sound like a total peon going around liking these celebrities.  They don't give a damn about you, but they certainly benefit from your misplaced goodwill.

      Respect people in your local community, not empty headed celebrities, with their fake face lifts and plastic surgery, and their millions or billions of dollars.  They don't need our sympathy.

      In Britain they admit to having royalty. In the United States we pretend we don't have any, and then we elect them president.

      •  But (4.00)
        If Martha starts speaking out for Prison Reform and against mandatory sentences and pro rehabilitation and anti death penalty, my respect for will increase greatly. She is high profile and she has just spent 5 months with women, few of whom are rich. She has probably learned a lot and if she uses those lessons to help others and speak out on issues, she could do a lot of good.

      •  Don't be a total ass (4.00)
        If catfish (or I) want to "like" Martha, or anyone for that matter, who we only have limited knowledge of, that's not pathetic.  Sounds to me like you are a little jealous or envious of Martha.  Now that's pathetic.

        Further, there is plenty to "like" and admire about Martha, and if you can't see that, I don't give a damn.  But your lack of insight doesn't make me a "sap", a "peon", or "pathetic".

        Martha is a self-made woman with drive, intelligence and style.  There's plenty to like there.

        •  indeed... (none)
          I'll up the ante and say that I not only like her, but I think she's totally hot. Beat that, Blitzer!

          I don't know if she's a nice person or a total hardass, but I do think she was totally ripped off. All these sleazy Ken Lay types escape after ruining people's lives yet the witch-hunt is held for her, because she's a 'bitch'.

          Yet while she was in prison, Donald Trump was made a media darling. Trump who is not only a total tool, but also not nearly as successful as Stewart in actually doing things besides just being a media figure.

          So, to recap

          Martha = Persecuted, also really hot
          Trump = Absolute tool
          Media = Completely pathetic
          Francisco Franco = Still dead

      •  Grudging Respect for Martha (4.00)
        I've never liked Martha Stewart but have grown to have a grudging respect for her despite myself.  I feel like she was a scapegoat for "cracking down on corporate greed", pretty laughable considering Enron and Worldcom, but people seem to suck it up.  I think Martha handled being sentanced and being in prison with dignity.  I've actually tried to argue about Martha's being sentanced to people and I usually heard "she's a bitch, she deserves prison".  Do you think you'd ever hear that about Ken Lay?  What a lame conviction, being a "bitch", what about being a greedy corporate pig that ruined MANY people's lives?
        •  I feel the same way (4.00)
          I've never watched her show or anything, but I felt she's been treated unfairly.  She has the personality of many high-powered CEOs, yet she was portrayed as a bitch or a control freak.  For a male CEO, that's just decisiveness.  I still can't believe that she spent 5 mo. in prison and Ken Lay has spent no time at all.

        •  I agree (none)
          and whenever I see stories about her I'm reminded that Dubya did much worse when he was with Harken Energy--and look where he is!  She started with nothing and earned her own way too.
      •  successful people suck, don't they? (none)
        bring 'em all down to size with us losers.
      •  I think you are mistaken about Martha (none)
        if you look at her face, it doesn't seem to have been surgerized at all.  That's one of the things I rather like about her.  She isn't all botox-y and the corners of her mouth aren't pinched up with clothespins.

        I think you are being a tad too judgemental here.  Pathetic?  That seems a little strong.

      •  Hey Asak! You're pathetic! (none)
        But you dissed me with passion and conviction. For that I give you a fo. I hope you're a Democrat.

        I also like Martha because her show went beyond traditional domesticity and made engineering feminine. She's not a domestic goddess - she's a domestic geek. And she is a total freak. Woman after my own heart.
