I will wait for polls.  My take is that this continues to demonstrate that punching up works.  Mitt Romney and T Paw were threats.  Not Palin and Trump.  This just threw them a lifeline, and removed a trump card from the President's campaign.  Why not at least wait until after the first Republican debate where the crazies were forced to answer the question?

Anyone that thinks this is a good move is being shortsighted.  But that hasn't stopped folks before.

the long form certificate contains no relevant new information, so it shows how silly any birther always was.  As all of the candidates but Trump know, embracing it is the kiss of death.  Even dog-whistling like Palin did would hurt a candidate in the general, so no serious candidate would embrace birtherism, at all, and despite strong support among Republicans for it, I don't know if it's the sole issue on which they'd base their vote.  After all, once Obama's out of office, who cares where he's from?

I think also if you look at the protests at GOP town halls, the best thing the President can do is make the election a referrendum on the future of medicare.  As birtherism equals race, it's not quite a net winner for him.
