  •  This is quite a thread. (3+ / 0-)

WDTB is a great book, and it's been helpful to me.  What I notice in the thread is that lots of people say they would like to write, but for various reasons don't do it.   That's a shame.  But it's one that has a solution.

I'm not talking about quitting one's day job, or running off with the next writing circus that comes through town to begin writing.  Something more modest by far is all that's needed: just write a little bit on a fairly clear schedule.  Keep after it.  See what happens.  Don't worry about whether you know where it's going or not.  Or how it ends up.  Or whether it's any "good."

Don't show it to anybody until you're ready.  Don't talk about it while it's in process. Don't listen to most of what people say about it.  Just, as the Nike folks put it, do it.  When it's time to do something with it, if that time comes, you'll know what to do.  In the meanwhile, just take baby steps.  Many of them.

Thanks for reminding us all of this.
