    but the D.C. bar association ruled that professional but well-meaning incompetence isn't enough.  That is, as long as John Yoo genuinely believes what he says and writes, and doesn't steal or use drugs, he's subject to sanction by his employer but not the bar.  I don't understand why a client would care why a lawyer gets the law so completely wrong, but that's just me.  But once the D.C. bar ruled in his favor, any chance he could be prosecuted pretty much went out the window, same with anyone who relied on his advice.  That's not to say the D.C. bar got it right, but it lowered the odds of a conviction.
