    There is so much focus on "bad apples" in teaching that we do not see in ANY other profession — and we use this flimsy line of attack to smear the whole profession and cast suspicion on all teachers. we don't do this to nurses, doctors, florists, janitors, librarians, even Wall Street hedge fund managers, where it might be appropriate — yet all those professions surely have the same percent of "bad apples."

    To me the whole "bad apples" argument, which is deployed almost exclusively against teachers, is a wedge into condemning the entire profession. It doesn't wash. No profession includes only outstanding practitioners.

      I see it applied to police frequently.  Heck, it's frequent HERE.

      Everything you say about teachers being an exception is simply false, because cops get it too
