  •  Me too (7+ / 0-)

I'll always remember the tv stations showing them posted all over lower Manhattan.  People standing on the streets, passing them out, trying to find loved ones. So many flyers, so many lives lost.

Prayers, as always, for all of them.

    •  What I have always found most wrenching is that (9+ / 0-)

Bush-Cheney simply used their deaths to build their global machine of carnage and death.

For days, for week after week I was drawn to the faces of the fallen, and to their stories, as featured in the Times. All these families ruptured so horribly, and their loss was merely an occasion for pushing an ill conceived and ill starred agenda.

There was Bush on the smoking ruins and the fulminated ashes of human beings, braying a prediction whose fruition he sought to accomplish through the blood and bravery of others, piling cost upon cost, children's bones upon charred flesh, upon rubble.

Who can forget, once having seen these faces, really seen them, that our putative leaders had a choice as to how to honor the memories of these our fellow human beings, and how to react to their mass murder.

Standing at the dawn of this new century, they could have chosen to unite the nation and seek global comity, or pursue naked political ambitions hatched from the worst impulses, with the most passionate intensity. Fear, greed, American exceptionalism, and the delusions of Empire prevailed, and America swerved.

Who can argue that Bin Laden's death is a bad thing? Yet how much recompense can that be, given that "The evil that men do..." You know the rest. We're still living with it.

Let Bin Laden be dead. Let him be buried. Let us also turn back to these faces, and remember, and, if we are able to summon it at this moment, think of love.

of our nation: declare a crime had been committed and that the person(s) responsible would be brought to justice.

instead, he perpetrated the greatest injustice upon the world.

bush, like bin laden, will have to answer to their own fate - their own karma.

i would not like to be in that path that either now has to make.
