    AZ is trending in the same direction as neighbors CO, NM, and NV, and probably would have gone for Obama in '08 were it not for McCain being on the ballot.

    This is where the binary thinking (red/blue, black/white) that sometimes infests the blogosphere can hinder clear electoral strategizing (I'm not accusing the diarist of that -- just making a general point).  Yeah, the governor and legislature are freakin' crazy -- but then again, the state went for Clinton in 1996 while Fife Symington was governor.  That alone should illustrate the complexity of that quintessentially purple state.  

    Really? A trendy expression of befuddled incredulity? Really?

      That Arizona has a larger Mormon population than those other states, percentage-wise (I believe), and its biggest city of Phoenix is nowhere near as liberal as most cities of comparable size in the U.S.

      However, Republicans really screwed themselves with Latino voters, which will probably put Arizona into play this year - as this poll suggests.
