    where are the jobs?

I keep hearing about all the people being hired, but I see no tangible evidence of it anywhere.

And nobody's hiring people over 50, but everyone looks the other way whenever age discrimination is mentioned.

The Powers That Be have tried to spin this every which way they can, but it all comes down to one thing: there is no demand in this society because the vast majority have no disposable income on which to spend it.

We need jobs in this country, jobs that pay a living wage and don't discriminate against a person's age, gender, race, or handicap. Oh, sure -- there are laws against such discrimination. But they aren't being enforced.

And the only jobs anyone seems to be hiring for are low-wage, part-time grunt work. Those positions are not being filled by people over 50 with multiple college degrees.

Where are the REAL jobs, jobs on which people can support themselves and their families? And when will employers stop discriminating against the unemployed? It's damn hard to get a job if nobody is hiring the people who are currently out of work.

It's as I stated months ago: a vicious game of musical chairs. Once you lose your chair, you just get to stand on the sidelines and watch until the game is over.

There are 'gigs'.  Even some 'projects'.
      But no jobs.
This is a terrible way to build an economy.

    •  Have 2 yrs. to oust older employees (0+ / 0-)

At my workplace, I just got word that the amount of money provided to my department to cover benefits will be reduced in two years to "match the position, not the person" so that if we can't find other funds to cover the shortfall, we will have to either pressure the individuals to drop/reduce their coverage, or find a way to fire them and replace them with lower-cost people (young orphans with poor dating prospects?).  As the senior executive at that meeting smarmily added, they know it's illegal to make employment decisions on the basis of benefits costs; they're trusting us to responsibly find our way to a "more sustainable" operating model.   Excuse me, I have to go pick up a couple of cases of wine now.
