  •  Mixed Feelings About Bill Maher (4+ / 0-)

Yes, he loves to berate Republicans and sometimes makes very solid points, but he also

    1. Is an Islamophobe and bigoted against Muslims.

    2. Believes in wacky medical theories, like vaccinations cause autism and are bad.

    3. Believes the rates of ADHD and autism are some sort of hoax so parents can drug their kids. (Though what kind of parents would enjoy giving their kids stimulants if they didn't have ADHD is behond me; would people want hyper kids?)

    4. Is sexist. He says some of the most sexist things and also racist things but does it with a smile because he's a comedian. It seems hypocritical, then, for him to call out conservatives on their racism.

    5. Gives people like Andrew Breitbart a platform so they can claim a credibility that they do not deserve. I believe he even called Brietbart a "conservative journalist."

So, I go back and forth between whether I care about what Bill Maher says or whether I think he's just a wisecracking a-hole.

getting conservatives to go on a show that will actually confront them on their bullshit is likely so difficult that Maher HAS to have low standards if he wants to present a balanced panel. He also has to occasionally coddle them more than they deserve. I don't personally blame him for that if it's the price for a show that actually attempts to get a representative panel, instead of going for the 3:1 R:D split favoured by most of the MSM.

      •  Maher doesn't need to coddle anyone. (0+ / 0-)

If a winger doesn't come on his show to defend the winger's POV, Maher merely has to announce it on the show and move on. He compromises his intergrity by the pound when he adorns Breitbart with an ounce of legitimacy.

Maher complains that Dems don't have the balls to stand by their convictions, yet Maher sells his soul to the ratings game by kissing the ass of the likes of Breitbart just to have a "balanced panel" for an audience that tunes in for Maher's acerbic style, not for Breitbart's sociopathic con game.
