    Single-member districts are the problem. With some form of multi-member districts (preferably single transferrable vote) Texas would be electing some progressives. Gerrymandering should be made impossible. It would help more in Texas than any other southern state because of its size.

      And, for that matter, the winner-take-all nature of the electoral college is where we got the artificial, culturally indefensible notion of "red" and "blue" states to begin with.
