    in WWII.   Almost all of them were democrats and all of them, regardless of party, as I recall, loved and admired FDR.

    Then again during the depression they were a large immigrant family and when my grandfather lost his steel mill job for a while, three of the five boys had to go to CCC camps.

    My dad was a centrist until Reagan.  He became more right then, but I blame my sister (who was very right) and she lived near him while I was 1600 miles away.  But he never went real far right and my sister was less and less to the right as she aged.

    But a few family members are hard right.......and they use the "weak on defense" argument a lot.  And do not use facts at all.

    I cannot imagine anyone in the military NOT being offended by the Swift Boaters and their purple bandaids, mocking, imo, purple hearts to get at Kerry.
