    Another point I would add is that we need to look at the social factors that drive people to extreme religion. I feel like a huge factor is the erosion of community and the lack of a social safety net in this country. Churches provide a network of support that is severely lacking in the country at large. We've failed as progressives to build the community we want to see; it is not simply their failure but ours.

    That's what it is to be a moral human being, per my conception of one, and I'm not going to apologize for the fact that my church attendance shores up that conviction within myself.

    Also, there are many points in the Bible that refute an anti-abortion stance. I don't throw out the Constitution because people misunderstand or abuse it. I don't let those people define my beliefs. And, yes, a belief in the merits of the Constitution is very much a belief system.
