(Baja Peninsula) that made fantastic cured chorizo and truly resembled an authentic Iberico chorizo. We couldn't believe our luck, it was that good and inexpensive to boot so we bought tons. During our stay we ate chorizo morning, noon and night. Brought us right back to mom's bocadillos. When it came time to leave we just couldn't part with our friends. So we figured if we concealed the chorizo in hallowed-out baguettes and packed them in an innocent looking lunch box we could pass it off as a meal in progress. You can say "idiotas!" now. The agents were quite rigorous in their search. Fat chance we caught them on an off day. The chorizo was confiscated and seized with a smirk. After 90 minutes of searches and penalties paid we were granted entry back into the ole USA sans chorizo.:((

    •  oh dear. I know that Baja crossing (1+ / 0-)

if you are talking about the one leading to San Diego.

heh.  I do understand the desire to bring home the bacon - so to speak :)

I bet those agents didn't dump the chorizo either.

Thanks for sharing that story and sorry you got home sin chorizo.
