...was making sure I kept the focus on the reactionary right and their views. There is much to Sharia I don't like very much, so it would have been all too easy to end up skating the line of "Muslim-bashing", which of course would distract from the point of the thing.

      •  Criticizing Sharia isn't "Muslim-bashing" as (2+ / 0-)

at the point where Sharia becomes the law, Islamism becomes a political ideology as well as a religion.  We can criticize Sharia like we can the Republican Party.

I meant that since Sharia reinforces many of the tenets of Islam, the line between the two can be very blurry in places, and thus one can begin with criticism of Sharia and end with Islam and it's believers.

By your comment, I take you as someone who would be able to tell the difference, but you have to admit that there are a lot of people who wouldn't. And since my point was to pick on neocons, why bother muddying it by walking a finer line?

law based on the bible & law based on the koran. the wingers think it's okay to based laws on the former, not only okay, but desirable.
so a law outlawing shrimp cocktail based on the bible might find purchase whereas if it is a law based on islamic teachings, unthinkable.
