are "consummate backbenchers". Particularly the ones who have been in the House for less then 20 years. I doubt she'd run and I don't know that she would win (haven't thought at all about this race) but "back bencher" status is hardly the worst thing in the world.

    •  Once you get to a decade (0+ / 0-)

you should have some kind of resume.  In Wisconsin, Ron Kind (1997) is on Ways and Means, Paul Ryan (1999) is Chair of the Budget Committee.  John Larson, Jan Schakowsky, Mike Capuano, Shelley Berkley, Joe Baca, and Anthony Weiner are all in Baldwin's class of 1999 and are more influential than she is.  Not every member of the 1999 Democratic class is in leadership or on Ways and Means, but if there are any with a worse committee assignment than Baldwin I'm having trouble finding one.

Is not a bad committee assignment in any way. It deals with all health care legislation, energy, foreign trade, consumer protection --- issues that are pretty much front and centre in today's political discussions and in the lives of real people.

Not sure what you've got against Baldwin, but you seem to want to denigrate her record and Congressional service. Just because she isn't as much of a show horse as some of the others doesn't mean that she isn't equally or more effective than they are.

Once social change begins,it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read...You cannot oppress people who are not afraid anymore.

I'm more disappointed than anything - someone with her experience and background should be in leadership and have a national profile.  We have seen a glimmer of that potential during the budget repair fight.  "First openly gay senator" would solve the resume/gravitas problem quite nicely, though!

the first openly gay senator, just because I want to have at least one reason to be proud of my state. Don't think that's going to happen though.
