  •  FWIW Wisconsin was first state with gay rights law (9+ / 0-)

Not that I think it says anything about Tammy's chances, but it is an interesting piece of history that it was the first state in the country to enact a statewide sexual orientation non-discrimination law (in 1982). It was signed into law by a Republican Governor, Lee Dreyfus.

I don't think being a lesbian would be a huge factor, per se -- but the caricature of "Madison leftist lesbian" will doubtless be one the Republicans would try to paint if she were the nominee. If they do that, they would have to be very careful, because they could easily invite a backlash among a lot of swing voters who might react if they perceive the Republicans as running an overtly bigoted campaign. It would be a very fine line for both the Republicans and for Baldwin to walk.

She would be an amazing Senator - I hope she at least considers the race and does some polling to determine how viable she would be.

Once social change begins,it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read...You cannot oppress people who are not afraid anymore.
