Kelly didn't know any of that, did she?

    •  I don't know. I haven't read the e-mail. However, (3+ / 0-)

since the reason for the e-mail was that Ensign wasn't offering a large enough pay-off, I suspect the e-mail contained more information than simply than an affair was going on and that it certainly contained enough that would have made a reporter salivate to investigate further.

      •  well, here's the email (4+ / 0-)

Link, via the diary. Here's as close as it gets:

The unethical behavior and immoral choice of Senator Ensign has been confronted by me and others on a number of occasions over this past year. In fact one of the confrontations took place in February 2008 at his home in Washington DC (sic) with a group of his peers. One of the attendee’s (sic) was Senator Tom Coburn from Oklahoma as well as several other men who are close to the Senator. Senator Ensign’s conduct and relentless pursuit of my wife led to our dismissal in April of 2008. ...

It appears there may be nothing the law can do to correct and bring justice and restitution to (sic) this terrible wrong that has been done to us. I have sought a number of lawyers who are having difficulty finding charges that may hold up in court. There are either technicalities that exist due to the time period in which I have sought help, or other nuances that quite frankly make no sense to me given the egregious acts and blatant abuse of power by Senator Ensign. From my perspective this whole nightmare is terribly wrong and completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated.

your chosen excerpt is far from being as close as it gets.  He clearly intimated sexual harrassment and retributive behavior.  He stated explicitly that his wife was an employee of Ensign - that raises an immediate question of sexual harrassment.  He doesn't provide details of the retributive behavior, but certainly provides more than sufficient information that any journalist interested in learning the truth about something potentially explosive would follow up on with further investigation.

That she didn't go on-air with this within days doesn't mean she wasn't pursuing the story.

Fox kept changing their story about the letter. They failed to report on it even after other media were doing so. I appreciate your strict interpretation as to the law, but are you really defending their journalistic integrity now?

Fox News at all, I think he's pointing out that people are making a lot of assumptions about criminality and whatever with no facts in evidence.
We're talking about Fox News here- ethical isn't in their mission statement.
The fact that Fox sat on news story to protect a Republican senator isn't really anything to be outraged about.
Your excellent diaries point out this fact all the time.

          •  i'm just saying, (0+ / 0-)

Megyn Kelly probably gets a lot of weird mail.  Much of it from our nation's prisons.

know, journalismn. Not that a news anchor would want to look into it or anything.
