didn't exactly fill me with confidence when they had a huge majority in the senate, a decent majority in the house, and the presidency a couple of years ago.

      •  This is not freakin' Egypt... (0+ / 0-)

This is the USA, and we already have a potentially viable electoral democracy in place, which has ONLY been rendered insufficient by insufficient participation, due entirely to electoral boycott and splitting sentiments, and right wing dirty tricks, suppressing likely Democratic voter turnout, over these many years.

If advanced communications technology can be used to precipitate events like what have happened in Tunisia and Egypt, imagine what we can accomplish here...the potential is, indeed, awesome.

I'm not against mass demonstrations, protests, and even general strikes, per se....but unless and until that kind of energy is directed at mobilizing the electorate, to demand, and actually participate in creating a more viable democracy, what freakin' good are they, or the "organizers"?

How many such demonstrations have you seen, in the US, calling on people to rise up and stomp the Republicans and the right, electorally, by electing more better Democrats?

        I'll tell you...virtually NONE.

As long as such demos are all about reviling the Democrats, and projecting false memes, like that riots in the street are "what democracy looks like", and bullshit like "if voting worked, it would be illegal", and "don't vote, it only encouragers the bastards", projecting absolute non-viability of the Democrats, and of electoral struggle...instead of calling on everyone to vote, for a change, to have any hope whatsoever for real change, to elect more better Democrats, explicitly to crush the right for blocking all progress, explicitly to seize the power, for justice and peace, to save the planet...we are blowing it out our ass, plain and simple.

Futile symbolic gestures of angst and defiance are...futile, and have gotten us NOWHERE.

It's time for expressions of hope and resolute determination, for a change, to actually seize the power, instead of merely bemoaning our lack of it, like spoiled children, who expect some kind of magical resolution of all contradictions, just because we "want" it, or "demand" it.

Democracy is the most fundamental revolutionary principle. Information is the ultimate key.

WHO you are YELLING at, Radical def ?

Maybe you should write your own diary,

          about what's bugging you. Thanks.

Most our your comments have strayed

well off the Subject of this Diary.

    •  Why do you insist on bringing this blatant LIE? (0+ / 0-)

This is the entire basis of "left" calumny against "teh Dems", and it's a goddamn lie, which I cannot accept as a mere error, but can only regard as an obvious, deliberate, weaseling, subjective hyperbolic freakin' LIE.

Despite those putative "Majorities", the right retained the actual real majority, between the Blue Dogs and Republicans, JUST BARELY sufficient to block, delay and sabotage all progressive motion.

Just a few more progressives in there, and a few less Blue Dogs and Republicans, would have turned the tables, relegating the right to beating their brains out against a brick wall, instead of us.

Going into 2010, we had the opportunity to blame all of the many shortcomings of the present administration on the recalcitrant intransigence of the right, and to mobilize the electorate to deliver a final coup de grace to the right, and actually seize the power, for real.

But no...faux "left" poseurs insisted on bringing this absolutely false meme, that "teh Dems" have to be absolutely non-viable...actually participating in the cacaphony brought by the right, indeed, materially siding with the enemy, to join in vilifying and castigating Obama and "teh Dems", ruthlessly, relentlessly, without any vestiges of principle, reason or logic, to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Go figure.  Who's freakin' side are you on, for real?
