  •  Sis Ruby - do not forget (7+ / 0-)

that many of the founding members of the NAACP who launched the crusade against this were white.  As was the young suffragette who dug into it - Elizabeth Freeman.

Yes it is ugly, and yes we need to get more people to know this history but you need feel no shame - just get angry along side of me about the lack of education around this  and pass it on.

    Hugs!

    •  Thanks Dee. I am angry alongside you and (5+ / 0-)

have been for a very long time. That's why I majored in Black history and have tried to learn as much as I could outside the classroom but I have never been able to pass it on the way you do. You are a miracle of an educator.

who you would like.  She is majoring in black history.  Her parents gave her grief about it.  She told them very simply - that if she was going to study history - she didn't want a one-sided version.

        She's minoring in women's studies.

She's also convinced her younger sister to take black history too.  And queer studies.  :)

for all students. I do have faith and have seen evidence that the young people just do not go with all of this bigotry crap. The young adults in my family are simply appalled that anyone would be judged on the color of their skin, gender or who they sleep with. They just won't have it and have no trouble whatsoever confronting it. It does give me hope.
