Friday Block Party a couple of weeks ago. Most of that group is about the same age, with generally the same memories. We were discussing the beginnings of space flight for the most part, and the feeling of the early 60s - that we could change the world...

I miss the heady days of the early sixties. (5+ / 0-)

Yeah, there was a lot of crap going on - the Civil Rights movement was really cranking up and people were getting killed, and my (racist) father was taking classes on how to build a bomb shelter to protect us when the Russians unleashed atomic weapons. (When Johnny sees the flash, he knows to duck and cover...) and there was this place in Southeast Asia...and our President was assassinated...

But we had long-sighted men in the White House (heck, Eisenhower warned us about the military-industrial complex) it was an honor to be a teacher or a scientist, there was a band from Liverpool who said it was okay to be different from your parents, and we were heading for the stars.

Per aspera ad astra -"Through hardships to the stars".

I want to feel that way again. Please.
